Seasoned filmmaker Puri Jagannadh—renowned for his high-octane, hero-centric films like Pokiri, Desamuduru, and Temper—is stepping into new territory with his upcoming project Beggar, starring Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi. According to sources, the film is a “concept-driven and path-breaking” venture, markedly different from Puri’s usual fare. “It’s a fresh, novel idea—far removed from his past films—and has strong emotional depth. Puri aims to make a significant impact in Kollywood with a pan-India appeal,” a source reveals.
Vijay Sethupathi, still riding high on the success of Maharaja, where he played a ruthless vigilante avenging his daughter, will reportedly showcase a completely new look and demeanor in Beggar. “His gait and attitude in this thematic entertainer will be striking. It’s a unique offering from both the actor and the director,” the source adds. The film is expected to complete shooting in just 65 days.
Puri, known for his brisk execution, previously wrapped up Mahesh Babu’s Businessman in a swift 72 days, without compromising quality, and the film resonated with mass audiences. “Puri’s speed and precision work to his advantage, and actors like Vijay Sethupathi and Tabu are keeping pace with his dynamic style,” the source notes.
With Beggar, Puri aims to move past the disappointment of Liger and the mixed reception to Double iSmart, making a strong comeback with this ambitious Tamil-Telugu bilingual.
