Priyadarshi Under Pressure to Deliver with Sarangapani Jathakam

Priyadarshi upcoming film Sarangapani Jathakam is slated for release on April 25, and industry insiders say it's a crucial test for the actor’s mass appeal.

After earning both commercial success and critical acclaim for his last release, Court State Vs Nobody, comedian-turned-hero Priyadarshi now faces a bigger challenge — becoming a true crowd-puller. His upcoming film Sarangapani Jathakam is slated for release on April 25, and industry insiders say it's a crucial test for the actor’s mass appeal.

“The budget of Sarangapani Jathakam has gone over ₹14 crore — the highest in Priyadarshi’s career as a lead actor, while his other films are made within Rs 6 ot 7 crore,” reveals a distributor. “It’s a comedy-driven entertainer, and it needs strong openings to be a safe venture for all involved.”
Unlike Court, which was a gripping courtroom drama centered on caste discrimination — a socially relevant theme that struck a chord with critics and audiences alike — Sarangapani Jathakam leans more into mainstream commercial territory. This genre shift means that box office performance will play a bigger role in the film’s success.
Directed by Mohanakrishna Indraganti and produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad under the Sridevi Movies banner, the film’s release had been delayed multiple times. “The makers are now confident they can capitalize on the goodwill generated by Court, which minted gold at the Telugu box office,” the distributor added.
The film also represents a potential comeback for director Mohanakrishna Indraganti, who has struggled to deliver hits in recent times with underwhelming performances from films like Sammohanam and Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali. With Sarangapani Jathakam, both the director and lead actor are looking to regain momentum.
With a few more lead roles in the pipeline, Priyadarshi’s fate as a solo hero in Tollywood may well hinge on how Sarangapani Jathakam performs at the box office. For now, all eyes are on April 25.
