Prakash Raj Replaces Rajat Kapoor in SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi?
The film is slated for a grand release in 2027 across multiple languages worldwide.

Seasoned actor Prakash Raj has reportedly replaced Bollywood actor Rajat Kapoor in SS Rajamouli’s much-hyped film Varanasi. Expressing his happiness about joining the project, Prakash Raj said he was “super thrilled” to be part of the film, which is currently progressing at a brisk pace.
The versatile actor has already completed his schedule and shared his excitement on social media. He wrote, “Wrapped up a wonderful schedule of #Varanasi… a joy to the hungry actor within me. Thank you @ssrajamouli @urstrulyMahesh @PrithviOfficial @priyankachopra. It was an exhilarating experience working with you all. Can’t wait to resume the next schedule.”
Earlier, SS Rajamouli had creative differences with Rajat Kapoor, who was initially roped in for a key role. Rajat Kapoor is undoubtedly a talented performer and has won acclaim for his work in Hindi films such as Mithya, Mixed Doubles, and Siddharth,” says a source. “He was signed purely for his acting ability. However, the director and actor were not on the same wavelength when it came to shaping this crucial character in a very specific manner.”
Known for extracting powerful performances from his actors, Rajamouli reportedly felt that pushing further may not yield the desired result and decided to replace Rajat Kapoor with Prakash Raj.
Varanasi stars Priyanka Chopra as the female lead, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays an important role. The music is composed by MM Keeravani. The film is slated for a grand release in 2027 across multiple languages worldwide.
