Pawan Kalyan’s long-awaited historical action drama, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, finally released in theatres today and has already sparked strong reactions across the Telugu states. The film, set against the backdrop of the Mughal era, sees Kalyan don the role of a valiant warrior who challenges the tyranny of emperor Aurangzeb.

The story boldly confronts the Jizya tax—a controversial religious tax imposed by Aurangzeb on Hindus for practising their faith. The film portrays the systemic oppression under Mughal rule and shines a spotlight on the economic and spiritual plundering of India, including symbolic references like the Kohinoor diamond.

Taking to social media this morning, Pawan Kalyan emphasized the philosophical and cultural essence behind the film. He wrote: “The Jizya tax, a punitive levy imposed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb on Hindus for practising their faith, stands as a stark symbol of oppression, yet historians have long softened its brutality. #HariHaraVeeraMallu boldly unmasks this injustice, exposing the erasure of Hindu suffering and the looting of India’s wealth, like the Kohinoor’s theft. With unwavering resolve, this saga celebrates Sanatana Dharma and the courage of our unsung heroes who defied tyranny.”

The film opened to packed houses during premiere shows last night, and strong collections are expected through the weekend. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and Jyothi Krisna, the film also stars Bobby Deol as the antagonist Aurangzeb and Nidhhi Agerwal as the female lead.
