Maybe Someday I Will Explore Direction, Says Priyamani

I enjoy watching a variety of shows, including crime dramas. It’s fascinating to see how the story unfolds and the characters are developed

Priyamani is back to OTT in her latest show ‘Good Wife’. In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, the actor heaps praises on director Revathi, shares her love for crime dramas and discusses her upcoming projects, including ‘Family Man 3’.

‘The Good Wife’ English was well received. How do you see the Tamil adaptation resonating with the audience?

The Tamil adaptation of ‘The Good Wife’ has resonated well with the audience so far. We have taken the core concept of the original and added our own twist to make it relatable to Tamil culture. The struggles of the lead character, a single mother balancing her personal and professional life, have been well-received by viewers. People have liked the performances and the way we have handled the series, and we are getting positive feedback. While some viewers may have minor criticisms, overall, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Is it easy for women to make a comeback after a career break?

Making a comeback after a career break can be challenging, especially for women who may have taken time off. While there’s no guarantee of returning to the same position or status, I believe that with determination and hard work, it’s possible to achieve success. It may require starting over or facing backlash, which are part and parcel of the work and I wouldn’t say it is a breeze, it’s not hard if you put your mind to it.

What is it to be directed by Revathi, who’s also an actor?

Working with Revathi ma’am is a wonderful experience. She’s an excellent director who understands actors’ needs and makes us feel comfortable on set. Her approach is collaborative, and she encourages us to share our thoughts and ideas. She’s also very clear about her vision, and her feedback is constructive. I have enjoyed working with her, and I appreciate her ability to balance guidance with creative freedom.

Is there a show in foreign language you watched and would have loved to be a part of? Maybe a show like ‘Money Heist’ or ‘Criminal Minds?’ I enjoy watching a variety of shows, including crime dramas. It’s fascinating to see how the story unfolds and the characters are developed. I also appreciate the concept of understanding the criminal’s mindset to catch them. Watching shows like these helps me learn and inspires me for future roles.

Do you see yourself turning a producer or director?

I am not sure about writing, but I do have an interest in direction. While I don’t have a specific story in mind right now, I have a keen eye for direction and enjoy observing the craft. Maybe someday I will explore directing, but for now, it’s too early to say.

What next after this?

I am excited about the future, especially with the positive reaction to the first series and the anticipation for the second season based on audience feedback. I also have upcoming projects like ‘Family Man 3’ and a few others in the pipeline down South. I am looking forward to starting new projects and exploring different roles.
