Thisfar-reachingmessage will be embraced by audiences across SouthIndia: AmolParashar

Amol Parashar who has played memorable characters in OTT offerings like 'TVF Tripling' and 'Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare' and portrayed iconic revolutionary Bhagat Singh in Shoojit Sircar's film 'Sardar Udham' is always on the lookout for interesting roles. One of his favorite protagonists is Arun, a free-spirited, insightful, and mysterious character in Zee Theatre's teleplay 'Panchi Aise Aate Hain,' who enters the Shukla household and befriends Saru, an under-confident young girl and changes her perspective about life and herself.

The teleplay was a Hindi adaptation of iconic playwright Vijay Tendulkar's Marathi play, 'Ashi Pakhare Yeti' and is now also available in Telugu and Kannada to make it reach a diverse audience. Amol believes this teleplay will strike a chord with audiences in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. He says, "A story about patriarchy's impact on a woman's self-worth is relevant in any milieu. This play was written in the 1970s but continues to resonate as it explores the impositions that middle-class families place on women regarding marriage. The narrative shows how Saru begins to unlearn social conditioning to assert her individuality and her journey will be celebrated by audiences everywhere."

About his character, Amol says, " Arun is a bohemian traveler who becomes the catalyst for change in Saru's life. He reminded me of the charmer that Shahrukh Khan has played in many films. Despite his overt charm and gift of the gab, he connects with Saru with deep empathy and sensitivity. He sees that her self-worth has been undermined severely and helps her to value herself once again."

According to him, the core idea that audiences can glean from the teleplay is that patriarchy is a pervasive force that impacts both men and women. He explains, "Though women are expected to abide by certain societal notions about eligibility when it comes to marriage, even men are bound by a patriarchal system. This story communicates that when it comes to love and marriage, every human being must have the freedom to make their own rules."

He is excited that a Tendulkar play, originally written in Marathi many decades ago is now reaching a larger audience in a multilingual format via teleplays, Zee Theatre is preserving classic plays like 'Panchi Aise Aate Hain,' which otherwise would remain restricted to stage, he concludes.

The teleplay is directed for stage and filmed by Ishan Trivedi and also stars Ratan Rajput, Deepak Qazir, Vibha Chibber, Sandeep Dhabale, and Vinnay Vishwaa. Watch it on 2nd December 2023 on Airtel Theatre, Dish TV Rangmanch Active, and D2H Rangmanch Active.
