Blown Away by DSP’s Attention to Detail: Thandel Singer Saloni Thakkar
Saloni Thakkar’s “Namo Namah Shivaya” shines, singer shares her journey, working with DSP, and admiration for Sai Pallavi

Singer Saloni Thakkar’s latest song, “Namo Namah Shivaya” featuring Sai Pallavi from Chandoo Mondeti's "Thandel", has become a chartbuster. In a candid conversation with Deccan Chronicle, Saloni shares the story behind the song and her admiration for DSP and the working style of the South Indian film industry.
Saloni’s tryst with music began at the age of 17, and she has been working in the industry for over five years. However, it was her YouTube channel that caught the attention of music composer DSP, who approached her to sing “Namo Namah Shivaya”. Saloni was thrilled to work with DSP, whom she admires greatly, and was impressed by his dedication and passion for music.
I am a huge fan of DSP, and after AR Rahman, I consider him among the greatest. I was thrilled when his assistant called me to sing “Namo Namah Shivaya” from Thandel. Despite my initial logistical concerns, DSP’s team made it work, and I flew to Chennai to record at his studio.
Working with DSP was a dream come true, and I was blown away by his dedication and attention to detail. He was particular about every aspect, from tone and emotions to pronunciation. Our recording session was a masterclass in itself, with DSP simultaneously working on lyrics and ensuring a perfect fit with Sai Pallavi’s Telugu lip-sync.
The experience was truly eye-opening, showcasing the differences between South Indian and Bollywood working styles. DSP’s passion and commitment to his craft are inspiring, and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. The end result was well worth the effort, and I am thrilled to have been a part of “Namo Namah Shivaya” which is receiving so much love.
Recently, another song crooned by Saloni with B Praak— Heer—Drill version in Sonu Sood’s Fateh was released and the song is already making waves on the internet. The singer is looking forward to exploring new opportunities and collaborating with other artists.
