Talking land acquisitions, Carnatic style!
In an interesting medley of sorts, we’d soon be seeing director Rathindran of Kodaikanal Won’t fame along with noted carnatic musician TM Krishna. They would be making a video album on an art project.
Rathindran’s earlier music video, featuring rapper Sofia Ashraf, had garnered millions of views over a year ago. It even brought the corporate giant Unilever to book.
Ramon Magsaysay awardee TM Krishna is known for pushing the boundaries of his art, experimenting with language and form. So, when TMK, who refused to participate in the Margazhi music festival, and Rathindran, who is in the middle of his debut commercial venture Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai team up for a social music video, the expectations are obviously high.
When Rathindran was contacted by DC, he said, “After Kodaikanal Won’t, I was getting many offers for short films, but I got busy with my feature flick. One day when environmentalist Nityanand Jayaraman, who worked with me in my earlier video, told me that TM Krishna sir wanted to join hands with me, it came as a pleasant surprise. I immediately agreed!”
Unlike Rathindran’s earlier rap song, this will be in Carnatic style. The idea behind the video will be socially inclined and will have a huge impact, he adds. Our sources also found out that the new venture will touch upon the environmental issues of ‘purampokku land grabbing.’ Krishna will be composing music and will perform in the video, with lyrics written by Kaber Vasuki. The concept is by Nityanand, and Rathindran will be directing it.
