Chennai: Noted singers K.J. Yesudoss and Mano, actors Kamal Haasan and Sivakumar, music maestro Ilayaraja, director Vasanth and vocalist Sudha Raghunathan were among a host of dignitaries who paid tributes to the legend of Carnatic music M. Balamuralikrishna at his residence here on Wednesday.
Later, scores of rasikas, well-wishers and music lovers were among the multitude who bade a tearful adieu to the legend whose mortal remains were cremated.
The body of Balamuralikrishna (86) who breathed his last on Tuesday at his residence, was taken in a decorated vehicle and cremated at the Besant Nagar electric crematorium. Earlier, music lovers and celebrities made a beeline to pay their last respects to this iconic Carnatic singer, who began his musical career at a tender age of 8 and captivated the hearts of several thousands of people over the years. Rich tributes continued to pour in for the veteran. “My heartfelt condolence to the veteran Carnatic musician on his sudden demise. Praying god for his soul to rest in peace,” expressed Union mini-ster of state for road trans-port, highways and shi-pping. DMK president M. Karunanidhi also condoled.
