School band wins first laurel

Abibded Crage focuses mainly on 80s rock and they are working on putting together an album.

It was a normal day at school when a fabulous idea struck an eighteen year old boy. It didn’t take much time for him to share his idea with a gang of talented friends, both juniors and seniors. That was the beginning of a small band, Abibed Crage that pushed its way up later, to perform at different stages across the city. Having bagged the first prize at Propulzo 2k16, CUSAT last month the band is a students-only gang of four members.

“The band was a thought that struck us at school. It’s actually a dream come true every time we see ourselves perform on stage,” says Deneesh Mathew, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. The band further consists of Febin Jacob who is the lead guitarist, Rithik Valsan, who is the bass guitarist and Akash Biju on the drums. Deneesh who is now a first year B Tech student at Adi Shankara Institute of Science and Technology, says “All of us studied in the same school. All of them are my juniors. Febin is doing his plus two, Rithik and Akash are doing their plus one. We used to listen to various bands like Motherjane, Alter Bridge, and Metallica. They are our inspirations to become completely reserved to hard rock. And that is exactly why I believe we stand different from other bands that perform alongside.”

Abibed Crage focuses mainly on 80s rock and they are working on putting together tracks for the debut album. “We did two of our original compositions and a metallic cover as well. They are ‘In the end of time’ and ‘Abbarent advice’ under alternative or post rock genres. As a band we are working for a self produced debut album. That is what is in progress now and we have only begun,” Deneesh laughs.
