Beth' our bottom dollar on Hard

Two-time Grammy awardee, Beth Hard, who is all set to perform in the city today, takes our rapid fire round.

1. Your earliest memory of music?
I remember that day a piano commercial that played Midnight Sonata all day long, and my family woke up in the middle of the night and saw me playing the piano, and freaked out. The next day, I was put in a music class.

2. Your inspirations for music?
Life experiences, seeing people survive difficult things, and on the other side instead of being miserable about it, they are grateful because it changed them and helped them for the better. Human beings being able to survive after going through horrific experiences for the better, this inspires me a lot.

3. Who would you collaborate with in the future?
I always wanted to work with Leonard Cohen but we lost him this year. I also want to work with Tom Waits.

4. How do you unwind?
I am really into painting. I also love to garden and cook. I love yoga, and love to meditate.

5. Name an unusual place where compositions just come to you?
It could be from anything from a conversation with someone where they say something, and it gives me a picture in my mind and I’ll go on to write down that picture. For me, never do the lyrics come first. It’s always the music.

6. If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
Painting, probably. Maybe going to cooking school. There are so many things I love.

7. A song on loop?
Nothing I can think of.
