Singer comes south for inspiration

The acclaimed singer said that he felt equally blessed to work with newcomers equally as accomplished composers.

Legendary Bollywood singer, Sukhwinder Singh, who caught the attention of the nation with timeless songs like “Chaiyya Chaiyya” and ‘Jai ho’ is to visit Chennai for his upcoming projects. The prolific singer spent three years of his life in the city and collaborated with iconic composer A.R. Rahman to produce some everlasting tracks. He recently sang two peppy numbers ‘Turpeya’ and ‘Thap Thap’ from Salman Khan starrer Bharat and his drive to excel keeps proliferating with every song he sings.

The singer began his journey in music when he was four years old. In a telephonic conversation, the prolific singer says, “I do not look back and count my achievements. I stay in present and eagerly wait for next opportunity. In my 18 years of career I am never said no to any music composer. Before working with any musician I only have one question for them and that is whether they have sufficient time to give justice to the song and if they reply positively then I am willing to work with them. The word career according to me is materialistic. I have respect for yesterday, I have trust in god and I believe in living for the present”.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Original song, Sukhwinder Singh, recently paid tribute to Pulwama attack martyrs through his upcoming music video, Tu Desh Mera. He expressed sadness over the entire Kashmir issue. He says, “It is my pain for humanity which made me do this song. Whenever something tragic happens we start shouting. Has anyone tried to find why it happened? He condemned child rape in very strong words and expressed concern over the delay in giving out verdicts in rape cases.

The acclaimed singer said that he felt equally blessed to work with newcomers equally as accomplished composers. In the movie Sanju, I worked with beginners. “In my childhood I was performing in an event, singers came from all over the country. When I went to the stage to collect the trophy I rejected it and took a toffee instead. Music is like gift of god for me. I liked Bharat movie and I cried at the pre-climax.

The singer also shared his interesting bond with iconic composer Ilaiyaraaja.”He is just like a saint. I remember once I was supposed to have lunch with him. I was on the way and he said that let Sukhi come then only we will open the tiffin box. These were just like words of god. He is very disciplined in his work. Chennai is like a holy place for me. My first song with A.R Rahman was in Tamil —Lucky Lucky — from the movie Ratchagan. It was to be done by S.P Balasubrahmanyam and I was fortunate enough to record for that song”. Presently Sukhwinder is working for Bollywood projects like Shamshera and Housefull 4.
