New stopover for music lovers

The band has 14 members including five backing vocals.

Pradeep Babu is no new face for Malayalis, we have seen him belting out songs for many a music show in different TV channels. His boyish charm and soothing vocals have garnered him a good fan following. After being a part of the Malayalam music scene, both in the film industry as well as independent music bands, for nearly 21 years, Pradeep has started a band of his own. The band recently performed at IMA Hall in Kochi.

On his band christened ‘PB Junction’, Pradeep says: “I started it after my friend and current band manager Praveen kept persuading me for nearly three years. I steered clear of starting a band because I was accompanying many leading musicians for their stage shows. I thought I won’t be called if I start my own band. However, after much thought, I finally started a band last April. But I was particular that I would take the plunge only if my good friend and music director Yasir Ashraf joined me in the journey. Along with him, I picked a few musicians whose wavelength matched mine and finally PB Junction as born.”

The band has 14 members including five backing vocals. Speaking about the kind of music the band plays, Pradeep says, “For our last show in Kochi, we started off with a song dedicated to our mothers. I believe even before thanking God, we are here because of our mothers so our band starts off all performances with a tribute to mothers around the world. Then we will be covering some most loved evergreen classics from the past which the crowd loves. Being huge fans of our late Mani chettan, (Kalabhavan Mani), we cover a lot of melodies that he sang,” explains Pradeep.

The band has also come up with five original compositions. “We got them ready for a TV show. We are composing Tamil and Hindi songs as well.” The band is gearing up for performances in Ernakulam and Pondicherry next month.
