Mahesh Raghunandan’s music has the power to induce a feeling akin to warm fuzzy cotton candy that would melt in your mouth. With a powerful voice, beautiful lyrics and an easy-to-hum tune, Mahesh has been winning hearts in the music scene for nearly eight years now. Mahesh B. Raghunandan, along with his Bengaluru-based band, together known as Mahesh and the Mix, will be performing in Kochi this week.
On his journey as a musician, Mahesh says, “Music has always been in my life. Even as a kid, my mom used to teach me devotional songs. I became more interested in music when I was 13 and picked up the guitar. That’s when music was more than something that goes on in the background. It became a serious hobby. Around the same age, I got to listen to the song Gravity by John Mayer. That is when my music journey really started. It moved me emotionally like never before and I really wanted to know how it happens, how people get affected and how I got affected with a song. Then, I started writing songs and started trying to express what I had in mind by putting it into music.”
Mahesh goes onto add, “I am not formally trained as a vocalist. The only training I have got is from the musicians I've heard on the radio, my inspiration over the years and the musicians I have worked with.”
When asked to describe his style of music, he muses over it for a few seconds before answering, “I guess I try to express every single idea in the most genuine way possible. I want the person to feel exactly the way I felt when I wrote the song.”
Mahesh is yet to perform outside India but his voice has reached outside the country. “I got a lot of response from the UK and the US, had my music played on the BBC radio, got beautiful response and I am really looking forward to performing outside the country.”
Mahesh has been performing on stage for about eight years and had also performed in Kochi three years ago.
Mahesh and the Mix will be performing at The Muse Room in the city at 7 pm on Friday.
