Anchor, singer, voice artiste and columnist, versatile Bhavna Balakrishnan has proved her mettle in the television industry donning many roles. She has now come up with her second mash-up video. Inspired by Ilaiyarajaa’s song Roja Poo Adivanthathu the mash video is a blend of English and Tamil along with an interesting story line.
Bhavna, who presently works as a presenter with Star Sports, has presented both cricket and kabaddi, including coveted tournaments like IPL 2018. She says, “I have done two mash up songs which were released over the last 10 months. The idea was to have another dimension to my performing career. I have been the host of a popular music reality show called ‘Super Singer’ for almost 8 years and always wanted to do something related to singing and performing on stage. I used to be passionate about these pop songs from the ‘90s and early 2000s and wanted to bring that back in my own style. I have tried to incorporate a certain style of dance in my mash up video. There is a story line and certain production value to each song. My first mash up video was Latin American in its treatment and the second song is just fun and rock and roll in its depiction.”
The mash up video features dogs turning into human beings and Bhavna says she had to be very patient while handling the dogs. “We shot with them for half a day and let them be. I have a dog who has starred in the video himself. The other two dogs —Happy and Smiley — were from Twisty Tails dog café and were quite easy to work with,” she said. Bhavna is now back to television with Jodi Fun Unlimited.
