Song of fire for the soul
After Thoni, music composer Gowry Lekshmi is back with her second single —Theeye. An experimental single, as Gowry says, the song tells the need to take care of one’s soul just like the body. “We all spend so much time, effort and money to groom and care for our body. But what the whole world is forgetting is that these bodies are just walls behind which our souls play hide and seek. And we totally conceive that we are these bodies. But the reality is, we are the souls. It is our responsibility to warm our soul. The warmth could be anything such as love,” says Gowry whose song was released on YouTube on Friday.
“It is highly experimental. The song does not follow the normal structure. It has only eight lines which repeat till the end. The background score is also done in a different manner,” adds Gowry. Gowry has aptly titled the single as Theeye (fire). And she explains, “There is a fire inside us. Once we realise it, all our problems will be solved.” She has drawn inspiration from her own life for this music video. “I had gone through some issues in the past. There were insecurities,” says Gowry.
“We have followed a symbolic style throughout the video. The mirror image shown in Theeye is my soul. One can see that my outer self is groomed; however, my soul is chained and suffers a lot. I am trying to calm it by giving the fire. There is a shot where I take fire from candles. That indicates I am seeking help from my friends to console my soul. Eventually, my body realises only it can send the fire to soothe the soul.”
Gowry has written the lyrics, composed and sung the song. The video is directed by Ajmal Haneef and produced by Nevin Menachery, Kichu Mohan along with Gowry. The musical arrangement is carried out by Sujith Valiyaveetil, Ben Sam Jones and Derelict. Gowry says she had no high expectations about the response to the video when it was released. “Because it is different from the pattern our audience are familiar with. I got mixed responses. However, I am happy that most of them were positive ones,” says the music student.
