A stage for Indie music

The concept was to build an audience first to listen to that kind of music.

The genre of Telugu independent music has been on a roll for the last couple of years —thanks to music aficionados who created quality music with the belief that not all filmy music was worth listening to. And one such well-known musician is Sashi Preetam, who had shot to fame in Tollywood with the 1995 film Gulabi — which also marked his debut as a music director.

Elaborating on his personal strategy to promote Telugu indie music, he says, “We had launched a digital platform, M Files, a year ago to cater to the production of music videos of budding talent. The concept was to build an audience first to listen to that kind of music.” Interestingly, the platform’s first video, which was launched recently on their YouTube channel, garnered more than a lakh views in just a few days. “This is first among the five we have planned to launch every month. All the five songs have been penned and sung by Prathyusha Sharma,” he says.

Talking about their collaboration, the 28-year-old singer, Prathyusha, says, “I have known Sashi for a few years now and we have worked together for different events. I had been keen on becoming a singer since childhood. I love writing my own songs. In this single, I have tried to bring out the feelings of teenage infatuation. The music arrangement has been done by Sashi.” Interestingly, the whole music video took 60 days to complete — right from the pre-production days to making the final edited video. Sharing about the shooting days, Prathyusha says, “For me it was a different experience altogether. Before this, all my work required me to be behind the camera but this time I was in front of the camera too.” The team of M Files will be releasing their next single by Prathyusha in November and they hope to get a similar response from the audience.
