The Chala Vahi Des dance ballet — choreographed and directed by the Kathak guru Shama Bhate — was one of the highlights at the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi National Festival of Music and Dance that was conducted at the Taramati Baradari in Hyderabad.
The ballet is based on popular Meera Bhajans, that were composed by Hridaynath Mangeshkar and sung by veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar. The participating disciples of Shama Bhate were graceful in their Kathak dance movements.
The energy, inspiration, courage and spirit of love in a woman as personified by Meera were brought to the fore through the dance production.
