Gopi launches his own band

The music band The Band Big G' by Gopi Sunder will get a grand launch on May 20 at Al Nasr Leisureland in Dubai.

Here comes a band with a bang. Gopi Sunder, the musician who enthrals listeners and turns tunes on their head with an acrobat’s agility unfolds a new chapter in his career with a band ‘The Band Big G’. The six to seven piece band is getting a grand launch on May 20 in Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai. The promo of the band was out on YouTube on the sidelines of Vishu.

Two shows have already been signed by the Big G which promises to take music to a new level and keep alive the ‘brand fresh’ vibe in every performance.

“My interest to do live shows is behind the formation of the band. Big G is a band cum brand. Usually there can be some pre-conceived format to be associated with a band. An element of predictability regarding the style and way a performance is going to be. That won’t happen here. We keep on changing the line-up and selection of songs. And every show would be thematic, based on a concept,” says Gopi Sunder. He keeps the surprise of the gala opening intact other than disclosing it to be a grand audio-visual treat.

“The promo video is an inviting piece having a mix-up of many remarkable songs set to tune by Gopi Sunder for Malayalam movies starting with one of the latest — ‘Chundari Penne’ in Charlie. The musician doesn’t wish to keep it a place to listen to his owns productions alone and ‘Band Big G’ takes many memorable songs of legendary composers to the audience.

“Song selection would vary with the kind of audience and so does the choice of language. As with the line-up, the songs list also won’t be static,” he adds.
So is he contemplating a sabbatical from film song composing and concentrate more on the band? The answer comes in a jiffy, an emphatic ‘no’. He has over a dozen commitments up his sleeve. Fresh from the oven are the tunes he set for the yet-to-be-released Sujith Vasudev flick James and Alice starring Prithviraj and Vedhika in the lead.
