Kochi band's music floors Bengalureans

Bengaluru: Sixteen musicians sharing one stage belting out melodies of Indian ragas, powerful guitar solos and the haunting melodies of a violin, all at the same time…If that does not give one the impression of a power packed live concert, what does?

Often like minded people meet and they end up creating something larger than themselves. Thaikumdam Bridge has a similar story.

“It is literally a series of co-incidences. Govind and Sid were looking for musicians to play for a television broadcast back in 2013 and after we jammed, we became inseparable,” said Ashok Nelson, the rhythm guitarist of the band, during the sound check at Indiranagar Club hours before the gig.

Siddharth and Govind are brothers and the first two members of the band. Thaikkudam is the name of a place in their hometown and as they would jam near the bridge, they decided the name was best suited for them. Most bands evolve from one genre to another as they grow older, but not this one. Why? Because they never stuck to the genre game in the first place. “We never thought we would play one thing. With 16 people on board, it is a little difficult to do,” says Govind Menon, vocalist, violinist and one of the founding members of the band, laughing and looking at his band mates.

After the critical applause and immense fan following that their first album, Navarasam received, the band is all set to launch their next album Namah this September.
