This homely boy!

Not too long ago, this Delhi-based artiste garnered a lot of attention digitally and off it for his second album.

“I had picked up the guitar first, even before I started singing or writing songs," says Takar Nabam, a guitarist, singer songwriter based out of New Delhi. Born in Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh Takar released his debut album, Same Sky, in early 2016. The songs from this album include Hello, Look, Same Sky, Table for two, Move on and Replay. His second album, This Home That Home, was released digitally on the 30th March, 2018. The songs from this album include Independent Route, Surfer, Into the pool, Made me believe, Tonight's Screen, Melodrama and Receding.

Takar got into music and song writing from his school days as he explains, “My seniors from school and my cousin brother who was once in a Rock outfit and the music videos that I came across at an early age inspired me. It was only in 2011-12 when I started writing songs with vocal parts and lyrics. I realised that there were something's which I could express better in words than with just the guitar, so I took my singing and song writing even more seriously around 2015 onwards.”

First experiences are always exciting, and nerve wracking at the same time. Takar shares his first gig experience with us, “My first gig experience as a singer-songwriter and guitarist was at Ziro Festival of music 2015 in Arunachal. I was quite nervous and under confident, as it was my debut performance in a new shoe. Anybody who saw me play, prior to this performance, would have seen me play the guitar on stage. It was a shift from playing the supporting role to the role of a front man. To my surprise, it didn't go as bad as I thought it would.”

Even despite all these changes Tamar says that he would like to emphasize on quality music, and try to do that through his music or through guitar lessons, music workshops, whatever platform he gets. His big musical dream is to travel the world through his music. "I truly believe that music can transcend all the boundaries and can take us places. I'd love to play NPR tiny desk, Download festival, Crossroads festival, to name a few.”

As for what’s next, he shares that he has started working on new music for his third album.

“I'd really like to contribute to the music scene in Arunachal Pradesh, which is at its nascent stage. I'd like to reach out and help out the serious and sincere local artistes. More immediately I'm performing at The Quarter in Mumbai next week on May 17 to launch my new album This Home, That Home. I'm very excited to perform at this new venue. So Mumbai folks, please show up in support.”
