The singer has a unique voice but she went through a lot of struggle before getting her break.

After her successful stint with the song 'Megathoodham' from the movie Airaa, debut singer Padmapriya Raghavan is over the moon and very euphoric about her achievement. The song composed by Sundaramurthy KS has garnered more than 1 million views in You Tube and Geo Saavn has listed Padmapriya among prominent voices of 2019. The singer has a unique voice but she went through a lot of struggle before getting her break.

Padmapriya Raghavan started her musical journey from childhood when her mother Vaidehi, a singer, started teaching her Carnatic music. It was in college when she started taking part in reality shows and sang cover songs. The singer has recorded a few tracks for composer Joshua Sridhar and for a short film called Aaa Aaa.

The singer avers, “I sang for a short film called Maa, the music of which was composed by Sundaramurthy KS. After that Maa director Sarjun KM collaborated with KJR studios and they wanted a story for Nayanthara. Airaa is a supernatural thriller. Once the film was set, they wanted a montage song and while composing, Sundaramurthy KS called me and put some dummy lyrics so as to suit my voice. The lyrics were given by Thamarai. Padmapriya felt very overwhelmed when she received praise from Nayanthara herself.

The singer who quit her job in FM radio to take up singing as a career says that a singer has to undergo a lot of struggle and sustenance is really difficult. But now the industry is changing as a lot of women directors are emerging and something good is finally happening in Kollywood.

Composer Sundaramurthy KS said, “Her voice has different texture. We had a jam session and she sang the song after which I sent the song to Sarjun and he liked it. Her rendition was beautiful and the lyrics came out very well. I used Shehnai instrument for the song and Sarjun gave me the creative space”. The singer is currently working on her own single and cover songs.
