Big names to attend Thureeyam music festival

Starting from May 30, 15th edition will enthrall music lovers for 61 days.

KANNUR: The 15th edition of the much- awaited Thureeyam music festival will kick start on May 30. Organised under the auspices of Ananda Bhavanam at Peringome in Payyannur the music fest will enthrall music lovers for 61 days. One of the most prestigious festivals, Thureeyam will feature pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Hariprasad Chaurasia, T.M Krishna, Kunnakudi Balamuralikrishna, O. S Thyagarajan, L. Subramaniyam, Kadri Gopalnath, P. Unnikrishnan, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, Trichy K. Ramesh, Ramesh Narayanan, Kumaresh, Jayanthi Kumeresh and Sanjay Subrahmanyan, among other this year.

The programme will be held at Ayodhya auditorium in Payyannur at 6.30 pm. Swami Krishnananda Bharathi, the chief organiser of the programme said that this is first time a music fest being held in the country for 61 continuous days. “It was for 21-days at our 10th year and for 41-days on the 13th edition. Due to the overwhelming response from music lovers, we decided to include all the renowned musicians this time,” he said.

Many renowned names such as T.M Krishna, Kadri Gopalnath and Sanjay Subrahmanyan have taken part in all the Thureeyam festivals held so far. “After each festival, they promise to be back next year. That’s an invaluable recognition to the fest,” beams Swami Krishnananda Bharathi. These renowned artists dpn’t even charge their normal fees when they perform at Thureeyam. The musical extravaganza starts with Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt’s Mohanaveena recital on May 30 and concludes with the Hindustani concert of Venkatesh Kumar and team on July 29.
