Effervescent, witty and affable, 27-year-old RJ Evita Maria Louis’s positive demeanour and stellar energy instantly rubs off on you. The true blue Bengalurean who co-hosts The Morning Show and the popular Travel Bug (which amped up her popularity) on Indigo 91.9 fm has her explorative caps on all the time. And more so now, as her new offering is an attempt to inspire people to take on mindful travel “I’ve wanted to be a radio professional since the age of 13, when most wanted to be doctors or scientists. I remember telling people how I wanted to host shows and had them telling me to scour ‘realistic’ and ‘payable’ options,” reveals the alumnus of Christ University and Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. But, Evita knew better, and landed her first job as a radio professional – only to find a spot among the top radio hosts in the city today.
Travel Bug, A two hour weekend morning show is what’s keeping her busy these days. Simply put, the show is a casual chat between two people (Hosted by Evita along with Hari Menon, who takes the role of a story teller on the show) that gives listeners an insight into interesting travel concepts, budget trips, and usable tips; packed in with a great set of international music and humour, of course. “The idea is to inspire people to travel and learn while you explore. There’s a great deal of difference in visiting a place as a tourist or wanting to soak up the true vibe of a place like a local. And the choice is totally up to you to make. Travel to broaden your horizons, to be more tolerant and informed about places and not just for an Instagram story.” Listeners can whatsapp and send in their love, brickbats, queries and just about anything pertinent to travel, and the duo is at your beck and call.
Evita has ticked off seven countries so far on her bucket list, but her love for Asia tops the list. Ask her about her dream destination and pat comes the response, “I’d love to visit Japan and New Zealand at some point in my life. Japan because of the cherry blossom season; and New Zealand because in all my time in Australia, I didn’t seize the opportunity of being that close and go visit, so now I want to go and rectify that.” With humour and facts packed in with chart-topping numbers; Evita is hopeful that her five week old show will have Bengaluru’s listeners hooked on. “The love for travel transcends age. I feel the unbridled vibe is for anyone with a happy spirit,” signs off Evita.
