Talent is important, but won't be enough: Lecomte de Bregeot

Lecomte de Bregeot will be performing in Hyderabad on Saturday

French artist and prominent electro music DJ Lecomte de Bregeot is performing in Hyderabad as a part of Alliance Francaise Tour 2023 , which uses music to exemplify its commitment to fostering Indo-French cultural exchanges.

In an exclusive interview with Deccan Chronicle, Lecomte de Bregeot talks about the feedback he got from Indian music lovers.

Lecomte de Bre/égeot, you have an innovative approach to electro music that has gained international recognition. How do you see your music contributing to the ongoing Alliance Francaise Tour 2023 and fostering cultural exchanges between India and France?

Hi, first of all, thanks for having me!

Well, beyond the shows and the great experience of sharing a moment with the Indian crowd, The french Institute and myself really pushed to organize some other actions which could improve the cultural exchanges between our countries.

We had a chance this week to make a workshop with the next generation of indian djs and music producers at the Electronic music school of Bangalore. That was a very cool moment and a real opportunity to share a concrete cultural experience.

Cheers to all of them, sure they will make it huge !

Having grown up in Lyon and fallen in love with techno in the 90s and 2000s, how has your background influenced your unique style in the world of French electro music?

Always have been curious and quite open minded regarding all different music styles.

My very first experience through electronic music was verry underground, mainly in rave parties where I started DJing.

I am still close to my roots in a way, but my music is I guess is definitely led by all my influences which beyond Electronic are also Pop, rock and very connected to 80s sounds shaping but arranged in a modern way.

Your music has transcended the realm of electro and found resonance in the fashion and luxury world, featured in ads for prestigious brands like Yves Saint-Laurent. How do you balance your artistic expression with commercial collaborations, and what does this mean for the broader reach of your music?

I feel very lucky as I have the chance to be trusted in terms of music supervision through my collaborations.

Brands, Fashion designers and my partners are calling me to bring my own musical identity and sound shape.

So my expression is mainly a logical expansion of my actual music landscape.

This Collaboration for sure brought me a larger audience as it's a huge spread but it also allows my music to get featured in another art that I really like, which is fashion, it's a great fusion that gives my work another dimension.

Lecomte de Bre/égeot, your warm, synthetic beats are described as a signature for your electronic compositions. How do you believe your sound will resonate with the Indian audience, and what can they expect from your performance in Hyderabad

To be completely honest, I had no clue about how the Indian audience would react to my Music.

Bangalore was the first trial, it worked very well, we had so much great feedback, and I am looking forward to making it work the same way in Hyderabad, can't wait !

As a recipient of the FAIR award, an organization promoting young musical talents in France and abroad, how has this recognition impacted your career, and what advice do you have for aspiring musicians looking to make their mark in the industry?

I was part of the Fair during the Pandemy, it helped me to structure my project further, at the time my audience were already international but passing through the Fair Helped me to go touring and to get connected to the public on stage

on top of the streaming platforms. It allows me as well to get a larger professional network in France.

My only advice would definitely be to work hard, I am from the lower class and I made it happen , everything is possible but it needs time, devotion and hard work.

Talent is important for sure, but that won't be enough, get ready for a marathon but it's worth it !

How different is the reception have you got from Indian music lovers vis a vis France?

Till now I haven't seen a real difference, Indian seems like an incredible country with so many faces and diversity, i love it!

So many languages and dialects down here, but music might be one of the only commun languages that all of us can understand beyond any countries borders.
