Malayalam singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi sets new world record
Kochi: Popular Malayalam playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi today reportedly set a world record by playing Gayathriveena, a single stringer musical instrument, for five hours non-stop, at a function here.
Overcoming the worries she had to experience after calling off her engagement with a Gulf-based Kerala youth less than a week ago, the visually-challenged singer played 67 songs including Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi in various ‘Swaras’ in the single stringer musical instrument, creating the record.
“I am grateful to God...I could fulfill the dreams of my parents, gurus and well wishers,” Vijayalakshmi said, after performing the instrument for the Universal Record Forum here.
She played 12 Keerthanas also in the Gayathriveena during the five-hour-long performance, organisers said adding her name would be suggested for Limca Book of Records performance. Vijayalakshmi performed before a host of musicians and other dignitaries including former MP and senior CPI leader Pannian Raveendran.
