The Ladio gal has gone places

The girl with a husky voice is the first thought that comes to mind after listening to Nikhita Gandhi.

The 24 -year-old came to Chennai to study, but her passion for music propelled her into stardom. Nikhita Gandhi is well-known among the Tamil audience, especially for her critically acclaimed song Ladio in the film I.

She got noticed by AR Rahman when she was the part of the choir of an Indo-German orchestra. After the tide of luck swayed in her favor, she has sung for the Mozart of Madras, multiple times. Her husky voice is something which appealed to him, and has been utilised to perfection in the songs she’s rendered.

Now she has more reasons to be on cloud nine. She was roped in to sing three tracks for the mega Hollywood project, Pele: Birth of a Legend, by the composer yet again! The to-be-released film narrates the early life of Brazilian footballer Pele. “I was speechless when ARR sir approached me for the second time to sing for him. It was a privilege to be part of such a massive project,” says Nikhita.

She has also sung for Anirudh in the movie Thanga magan. The song Uyire Uyire created waves among Chennaiites and is still a favourite for many even now. She has also sung for an Iranian film Muhammad-The Messenger Of God, which was directed by Majid Majidi. “The experience of working in an Iranian film was very informative and that was when I got to know the world of controversies in entertainment media,” she says.

Now that she’s seen what the music fraternity is like, she has chosen to put her career as a dentist on the backseat. Here’s wishing Nikhita a long and successful career!
