Going with the TIDE

The producer, who was exposed to music at a very young age, has always had an inclination towards it.

Ketan Bahirat or Oceantide, is on a roll! His fluid electronic music is relatively new to the Indian music scene. With tracks like Tides that goes easy on the ear, and Puff on Da Bomb that is more upbeat and fast paced. Clearly there are a lot of layers to Oceantide.

The DJ and producer from the city has been on the electronic music scene for two years now and is all set to perform with PILOOT, the French band that is currently touring in the country. “I have been selected by the band to perform alongside them. The performance is about blending music together. So, I will be mixing electronic music with their live music to create new sound. It’s something that I have never done before and it is going to be a lot of fun to perform live,” says the DJ who is going to be the only Indian performing that night.

Ketan, whose music has often been described as dancey and upbeat, says, “The scene of electronic music in the country is relatively new and that is mainly because not many people have experimented with it yet. I have played my music at a number of venues in Bengaluru, Bombay, and Pune and the response has been mind blowing! The Indian audience is actually quite open to electronic music as they usually want to dance at gigs.”

But for an upcoming DJ who has already collaborated with international artistes like Disco Puppets and Graciela Maria, who does he look forward to working with next? “I want to work with pretty music everybody in the music industry. The music scene is doing great all over and every artiste has new things to offer. I’m excited about doing new things and want to experiment with music out of my comfort zone, and my track with Graciela Maria was exactly that. I have created my own visuals for the track along with the music. It is still in the process of being completed but is looking great right now,” Ketan says.

The producer, who was exposed to music at a very young age, has always had an inclination towards it. “I have grown up listening to Hindustani classical music and eventually got into electronic music which came naturally to me. I love the fact that people are loving the music I create,” says the artiste who is all set to release his EP this year and is also planning a tour! “It’s still in the beginning stages and requires a lot of planning, but I love performing in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune, so those cities will definitely be on the list,” concludes Ketan, who will be performing with PILOOT on May 4, at The Humming Tree.
