62 per cent Hindus in wayanad, says Congress

In Wayanad district, Hindus form 62 per cent of the population.

KOCHI: Congress Working Committee member Oommen Chandy on Monday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for terming Wayanad as a minority dominated constituency where Hindus are in the majority. Addressing a press conference, the former chief minister said Hindus are 52 per cent in the constituency which includes parts of Malappuram and Kozhikode.

In Wayanad district, Hindus form 62 per cent of the population.

He said the allegation that Mr Gandhi was scared of a Hindu backlash.

“How can Rahul contesting from a sitting seat of Congress send a wrong message. We have made it clear that BJP is our enemy number one,” said Mr Chandy.

He also said that he contesting from Wayanad was not giving any wrong message as alleged by his successor Pinarayi Vijayan.
