Brochevarevaru Ra movie review: A simple, decent crime comedy!
Director: Vivek Athreya
Cast: Sree Vishnu, Nivetha Thomas, Satya Dev, Nivetha Pethuraj, Priyadarshi, Rahul Ramakrishna
Three classmates, who call themselves R3, Rahul (Sree Vishnu), Rambo (Rahul Ramakrishna) and Rakesh (Priyadar-shi), are very poor in studies. Mithra (Nivetha Tho-mas), the principal’s daughter, becomes good friends with R3. Mithra wants to learn Bharatanatyam, though her father would rather have her study. R3 hatches a plot to “kidnap” her and demand ransom from her father to fund dance classes. Elsewhere, aspiring director Vishal (Satya Dev) wants to do a film with star actress Shalini (Nivetha Pesuraj). The R3 plan flops as Mithra goes missing with the money. The two tracks meet and director Vivek Athreya of Mental Madhilo fame skilfully takes the movie to its conclusion. His narration and the screenplay make the film interesting.
Though the R3 does not quite look like they are doing their Intermediate, no one notices as the director takes the focus to the entertainment factor. All the actors behave naturally and the dialogues are casual.
Faking a kidnap and demanding ransom is not new in Telugu films but Athreya makes it different, Though he takes a lot of cinematic liberties, Athreya provides a clean decent entertainer. Sree Vishnu pulls off the lead role, it is another thing that he doesn’t look like a student. The film couldn’t have done without Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramamrishna who provide good laughs with their dialogues.
Nivetha Thomas lands a perfect role, she proves herself again. Nivetha Pesuraj is elegant in her small role and her performance is top notch. Sathya Dev as an aspiring director lives the role. Harshavardhan plays a funny cop. Srikanth Ayyangar as the father is adequate. Music by Vivek Sagar is an asset to the film as is the cinematography. The dialogues are amusing, natural and neat.
There are a few loopholes, but Brochevarevu Ra is a simple, pretty and decent crime comedy. Full marks to director Vivek Athreya for taking a regular story and making the actors live their roles. Small films have created waves in the box office and Brochevarevaru Ra continues the trend.
