Nanna Prakara movie review: Whodunit done right

Nanna Prakara is an adept and adequate crime thriller.

Director: Vinay Balaji

Cast: Kishore, Priyamani, Mayuri, Niranjan Deshpande & others

Behind every crime, the first and foremost question is always about who done it, and then the motive and so on. It is this factor which draws the audience to theatres to watch their favourite suspense crime thrillers. While there are umpteen number of television shows and news channels showcasing much better crime stories at present, it is indeed a challenge to impress moviegoers with a similar motive for an edge-of-the-seat experience! Any failed ‘attempt’ could instead put the audience to sleep rather than keeping them wide eyed with curiosity.

In this film, with a title Nanna Prakara that means ‘according to me’, the visual effect-technician-turned-director Vinay Balaji has managed to provide the audience a decent suspense thriller to some extent. The plot revolves around a murder with the mandatory twists and turns. Once the murder of a girl surfaces, Kishore, who plays the cop, gets busy unravelling the murder mystery. It starts getting murkier every time he encounters a possible lead in solving the case. Priyamani, as the doctor, returns to the screen after a gap of almost two years, but in the limited role, she changes the course of investigation.

What lacks punch is the missing ‘wow factor’ or an extraordinary tale to leave the audience amazed at the end. This one is just like any other decently made suspense thriller, which does a good job in keeping the audience engaged until the real culprit is revealed.

Finally, it scores as a one-time watch, purely for the sake of its neat and clean making with bits of surprises wrapped in between the multi-layered murder mystery.
