Sema movie review: Just have fun and a healthy laugh with this one-time watch

Vallikanth, yet another protégé of Pandiraj, debuts with Sema, the script of which is based on the true story of his friend and director Ramu Chellappa who directed Enkitte Mothathae.

Kuzhandhai (GV Prakash) is a vegetable seller in a town near Trichy and he along with his friend Omakundam (Yogi Babu) hawk items, which are seasonal. Kuzhandhai’s mom (Sujatha) wants her son to get married in three months when an astrologer predicts that it is the right time; otherwise it will get postponed to six years. The bride-hunting results in vain when most of the girls reject him due to the job he does. Finally, a frustrated Kuzhandhai goes to the neighboring town to see Maghizhini (Arthana), the only daughter of Attack Balu (Mansoor Ali Khan) and Mandharai (Kovai Sarala) and gets a green signal from the entire family. Just when all is well and the engagement is about to take place, there’s a hitch. The local MLA’s son, who falls for Magizhini, agrees to clear off Balu’s debts in return for his daughter’s hand. Now, Balu has a change of mind. Shocked with the developments, Kuzhandhai and Magizhini hatch a plan with the help of both their mothers and elope to Chennai. The rest is all about how they tackle Balu, which is narrated in a hilarious manner.

After a heavy outing in Naachiyaar, GV Prakash goes cool in Sema, a happy-go-lucky boy next-door character. He performs with utmost ease. Arthana Binu is cute and does what is expected of her. Yogi Babu, who is in full form, imitates ace comedian Goundamani, and he brings the roof down with his natural and spontaneous one-liners. Courtesy -Pandiraj's witty writing. The film travels in a predictable manner without any twists and turns. You can't really take it too seriously - just have fun and a healthy laugh. Thankfully, there are no double entendres or sleazy scenes. Prakash’s music is okay with Sandaali song already a hit. Watchable, once!
