Movie review 'Kaafi Thota': Murder' over a cup of Kaafi!

There is a love interest, which paves way for the mystery and the investigation part of it and the court room drama.

Movie: Kaafi Thota

The word ‘Coffee’ evokes images of aroma and indeed a lot can happen over it. While such is the relief for coffee lovers, the ace TV serial director TN Seetharam returns to big screen with his own version of Kaafi mixed with murder mystery and his favourite court room drama. Within minutes after the kaafi starts brewing, the slow and lethargic journey begins with a murder mystery, in a lone house in a remote area. The house is built within a widespread coffee plantation worth hundreds of crores.

By the time the Kaafi is being made, one would already need the real coffee to de-stress to survive the slow pace even as the plot ‘attempts’ to takes off. The first half is mostly about the introduction of characters, and showcasing nature in wide, long and serial shot angles.

As usual, the mystery starts with a murder of a plantation heiress, which is set in the past, and soon the action shift to 20 years after the heiress is killed inside a tank. Now, the focus is about solving the mystery .

After a lot of agonies, the script reaches its climax. Meanwhile, the mystery behind the murder mystery seems similar to one of the works of world’s popular mystery author Agatha Christie wherein the person who actually threatened the lady finally ends up marrying her, and the lady realises it in a dramatic end. The characters along with the plot seem to have been reworked for Kaafi Thota. The end might be even a reminder of the Bollywood blockbuster Kaho Na Pyar Hai, where the boy finally identifies the ‘person’.

There is a love interest, which paves way for the mystery and the investigation part of it and the court room drama. Even the characters played by the actors seemed a little overwhelmed as their performances turn out of being disjointed and uninteresting. Better skip this Kaafi, and if you are a huge fan of T N Seetharam’s work then find an old video of his popular TV serial and watch the court room drama in the serial and it enjoy with a cup of coffee at home.
