En Aaloda Seruppa Kaanom movie review: Catchy plot marred by lack of imagination
Director: Jagannadh
Cast: Tamizh, Anandhi, Yogi Babu, Bala Saravanan, KS Ravikumar, Singam Puli
Krishna (Tamizh, formerly Pakoda Pandi), a viscom student and whose mother is a sorcerer is in love with Sandhya (Anandhi), but the latter is not aware of it. On a rainy day, while climbing the bus, Sandhya loses one of her slippers. She requests the conductor to stop the bus so that she can get back the slippers, which were bought by her dear dad (Jayaprakash) who works in Syria. However the latter refuses to stop.
Our hero who travels in the same bus jumps out and goes in search of the slipper in vain. Meanwhile, militants kidnap Sandhya’s father in Syria. She along with her mother (Rekha) meets the sorcerer who tells her ‘find the lost slipper bought by your dad’, ‘you will find your father’. Thus begins Krishna's ordeal in finding the slippers. Did he succeed in his attempt among others who try to impress Sandhya?
Anandhi looks good and adequate. Tamizh is aptly cast as an innocent and harmless stalker and he does his part well. Yogi Babu to some extent evokes laughter, but Bala Saravanan’s episode falls flat. Then there is ace KS Ravikumar who comes as an aspiring politician.
The film has a catchy title and a plot, which sounds novel, but it is in the treatment and lack of imagination, the director errs. There’s no cohesive screenplay, and there’s no strong reason as why Krishna is attracted to Sandhya in the first place. The refreshing aspect is that the movie is set in Cuddalore, a new landscape to Tamil cinema and rain on every alternate scene is eye-catching. Ishaan Dev’s songs are a major plus to the movie, with BGM by Deepan aiding the proceedings well.
