Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu movie review: Ignore this RGV’s film!

The story’s bad, the narration’s bad and some silly characters come and go in between.

Cast: Ajmal Ameer, Dhananjay, Ali, Dhanraj, Prudhvi, Mahesh Kathi, Swapna and others
Director: Siddharth Thatholu
Rating: Truly Terrible

Ram Gopal Varma’s always tried to create some sort of controversy, which he then uses for his film’s publicity. The maverick filmmaker used the same trick for his latest production, Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu, which released on December 12.

Honestly, even the title gives away that it’s another cheap film from the RGV’s table. As for the political drama’s pathetic plot, here we go. Babu’s Velugu Desam Party is defeated in the elections, and Jagannadha Reddy becomes Chief Minister. Babu and his son Akash, unable to bare the humiliation, gang up with their close aide Dayaneni Rama to bring down the present chief minister. Rama arranges goons to kill a prominent leader of the CM’s party to destabilise the government, but in a surprise twist, Rama gets killed. Who killed Rama and what happens after his murder forms the rest of the story.

The story by Ram Gopal Varma has been directed by one of his assistants, Siddharth Thatholu. But nothing can take away from the fact that there’s no more to the film than that RGV has completely targeted a former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and his son. And as is customary, RGV’s used actors who are look-alikes of the characters they portray. Dhananjay Prabhune’s an exact look-alike of Chandrababu Naidu, but with voice-dub and lip sync that’s terrible. Tamil actor Ajmal of Rangam portrays Jagannadha Reddy while Dheeraj, as China Babu, provides some laughs. Nutan Naidu plays PP John, and a new actor tries to imitate Pawan Kalyan while a new actress plays Akash’s wife, Ramani.

Doesn’t the once-applauded director realise he loses credibility with such cheap spoofs? And Siddharth — who’s already proved to be a failed director with his debut film, Bhairava Kona — clearly has no clue what he’s doing here!

The story’s bad, the narration’s bad and some silly characters come and go in between. And RGV’s voiceover grates at your nerves.

Here’s clearly another complete failure from a once-upon-a-time great, Ram Gopal Varma. Worse, the film makes you question if RGV did actually direct films such as Siva, Rangeela and Satya!
