Jaya Janaki Nayaka movie review: It's a typical commercial film

Jaya Janaki Nayaka is the typical commercial movie that Boyapati is known for.

Cast: Bellamkonda Sreenivas, Rakul Preet, Jagapathi Babu, Sarath Kumar, Nandu, Pragya Jaiswal and others
Director: Boyapati Srinu

Jaya Janaki Nayaka is the stereotypical story of the hero impressing his sweetheart, their love meeting with opposition from their families and other circumstances, and how they overcome all obstacles. It’s directed by Boyapati Srinu, one of the top directors in Tollywood, who has made some good films in recent times. Gagan (Bellamkonda Sreenivas) is the son of an industrialist named Chakravarthy (Sarath Kumar). Wealthy kids in the movies are usually portrayed as spoilt brats, but Gagan is a sincere young man. One day he gets into a fight with a rowdy gang in order to rescue a girl, which impresses Sweety (Rakul Preet), who happens to observe the act. The two get close. Sweety wins the hearts of Gagan’s family and even makes some of them give up alcohol and bad eating habits! However, as with most formulaic movies, Gagan fails to win the approval of Sweety’s father (JP), who is the chairman of a road project.

The hero comes to know later that her father had promised to marry her to the son of Ashwin Varma, an industrialist played by the hero of yesteryears, Jagapati Babu. A disappointed Gagan shifts to Vizag for a change. In the meanwhile, Ashwin Varma’s family gets into trouble when he wins a big road project that a big liquor baron and mafia don Ramesh Pawar (Tarun Arora) also had an eye on. Despite Pawar’s threats, the road project chairman awards the tender to Ashwin Varma. He also rejects Pawar’s demand that he give his daughter in marriage to the don’s son. Gagan saves Ashwin Varma’s family from the mafia don and only later comes to know that Sweety was to be married into the same family. However, all ends well as he finally wins over everyone and gets to marry his lady love.

Though the story is predictable, you can enjoy watching the film, which has many senior artistes such as Sarath Kumar, Jagapathi Babu, Suman and Vani Viswanath. Boyapati’s style of narration will please the masses. Like his earlier films, it will be paisa vasool with its songs, dances, drama and action scenes. This is Sreenivas’s third film. He has performed well and shown his calibre in the dances. He has a good body and does the action scenes with ease. It’s another good role for Rakul Preet Singh. Jagapathi Babu plays an interesting character, who gives preference to family pride. Sarath Kumar and Nandu play the hero’s father and brother exceedingly well. Pragya Jaiswal has a cameo role in the movie. Catherine Tresa provides the glamour. Cinematographer Rishi Punjabi’s visuals are good, especially the action scenes at Hamsala Deevi. Devi Sri Prasad’s music will appeal to the masses. Jaya Janaki Nayaka is the typical commercial movie that Boyapati is known for. The four-day long holidays may work out well for this film.
