Nenjil Thunivirudhal movie review: Lost in delivery as a crime thriller
Director: Suseendhran
Cast: Sundeep, Vikranth, Mehreen, Soori and Harish Utthaman.
Kumar (Sundeep) an MBA student hopeful of completing arrears and Mahesh (Vikranth) are close buddies. They work for a catering company. Mahesh is an angry man; on the other hand Kumar is a peace-loving person. Though contrary in characters, their friendship is intact. Mahesh is in love with Kumar’s sister Anu (Shadhika) - a doctor who wants to pursue higher studies. However, Kumar’s mom (Thulasi) does not approve of their affair. Then there’s this romantic track between Kumar and Janani (Mehreen Pirzada)
When all seems going well, a false case lodged against Mahesh for ransacking a real estate office put them in a spot of bother. When Kumar steps in to rescue Mahesh, it leads to a larger conspiracy involving a ruthless don Durai Pandi (Harish Utthaman) and his gang. What comes out of the ensuing chaos forms the reminder.
Suseendhran takes his own sweet time to unfold in the first half, which has nothing fresh treading on familiar path- friendship, their lighter moments, insipid romance and merciless acts of the villain. It is during the interval block that the film picks up momentum with unexpected twists and turns.
Sundeep Kishan delivers big time with his natural performance. Vikranth though typecast has done justice to his role. Mehreen in a minuscule role does not make any impact. Harish as the menacing villain in a new look is impressive. Soori, a regular in Susee’s films is just about adequate. Shadhika fits the bill.
The problem with Nenjil ....is that though there’s a social message, it is kind of lost in the delivery of this crime thriller. Technically, Lakshman’s cinematography as well as Imman’s background score aids the narration well. A film that can be enjoyed only in parts!
