Kerala: Malayalam films continue to play in halls

The film was withdrawn from Kavitha in MG Road and replaced with Ore Mugham.

Kochi: The threat by the film producers and distributors association to withdraw the Malayalam films already running in cinema halls across the state from Friday was not fully successful.

Many of the films released prior to December 23 have been running in select cinema halls. Popular hits like Pulimurugan and Kattapanayile Hrithik Roshan were screened contrary to the claims by distributors and producers associations.

Siyad Kokkar, president of Kerala Film Distributors Association, said, Pulimurugan was permitted to be screened in select cinema halls to enable producers to complete the landmark of running of 100 days.

The film, however, is not being screened in cinema halls in Kochi except multiplexes. The film was withdrawn from Kavitha in MG Road and replaced with Ore Mugham.

Exhibitors’ Federation president P.V. Basheer Ahamed however denied any split and said such canards were spread by vested interests.
