As Malayalees gear up to celebrate Onam with a slew of movies hitting the screens including Mohanlal-starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam, the actor gets a huge Onam gift in the form of an honorary doctorate. The University of Calicut has decided to honour super star Mohanlal with a doctorate in recognition of his services and achievements in the field of acting. The actor had earlier received an honorary doctorate from the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, for his contributions to Sanskrit theatre and the world of movies. The Padma Shri awardee and five-time National Award winner is also the first actor to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of India in 2009.
The doctorate will be awarded to the actor, athlete P.T Usha and Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, at an event to be held on September 26 at 11 pm on the university campus in Malappuram.
