Short film fest to honour John Abraham

The three-day fest will have debates and workshops at the end of each screening.

There are two kinds of great filmmakers. One category is those filmmakers who want to leave a footmark always with their oeuvre, and the other is those who would not only explore the medium and create a body of art but to communicate to the common man through it even after decades.

Malayalam’s legendary filmmaker John Abraham was in the second category. The man who once quoted ‘I am the Hitler of my cinema’ is still regarded as the maestro of neo-noir movies in Mollywood, which considers his works as benchmark of success. To celebrate this avant-garde filmmaker’s life and works, an honorary short film festival will be held in Kozhikode from December 13th to 15th. In the first edition of the festival, 60 selected shorts will be screened and will be competing in the best short film category. The winner will get Rs 1 lakh and to the best director, a cash price of Rs 25000 with a shield will be given.

The three-day fest will have debates and workshops at the end of each screening. A festival committee comprising actor Joy Mathew, who was a decuple of the legendary director, has been formed. More details like the venues and timings will be announced in the coming days.
