Enjoying his spot in sun

Roshan Mathew's portrayal of Krish in Koode has been appreciated by the audience.

Anjali Menon's Koode had a lot of moments and characters that stayed with us even after the movie. One such character was Roshan Mathew's Krish who amazed the audience with his lively acting and screen presence. The actor, who started his career with Puthiya Niyamam, was lauded for this performance. The actor states that playing a character in Anjali's movie was a dream-come-true experience.

Roshan got a call from Anjali last year, asking to meet him in Mumbai. Though she mentioned a character, she didn't give any confirmation. However, Roshan's name wasn't there when Koode was announced. Somehow, Anjali felt that character wouldn't fit him. But to accomplish his long-cherished dream, he asked Anjali for an audition and she agreed. “I feel calling Anjali ma'am was a great idea. It was Ganesh ettan who asked me to call her. I had auditioned for both Krish and Sean. The character seemed to be comfortable from the time I auditioned. I felt a vibe with the cast and crew from the start,” he recalls.

“As said, I wanted to associate with this movie and it happened. Hearing good feedback about Krish makes me happy," he says about his entry to Koode. The young actor has always been in awe of the director. He credits the success of his character to her as well. He feels it's satisfying for any actor to work with her. “She directs the character, not the actor. Parvathi chechi and I along with the others had been part of the workshop from day one. I had familiar smiling faces ,while shooting for the movie. I respect Anjali ma'am for creating an environment for everyone to bring out their best. I guess we give our best when we are 100 per cent comfortable. She's a director who gives attention to everything on the sets. Everyone had a feeling of deep bonding while shooting this movie,” he says.

He really enjoyed working with Prithviraj, Parvathy and Nazriya. Their combination scenes were well-received in the theatres. “Full credit to Nazriya, Raju ettan and Parvathy. I've always admired these three and working with them was fantastic. Being a shy person, they made me very comfortable and that made the combination scenes so wonderful,” he says. Roshan has completed shooting for Geethu Mohandas's new movie Moothon. He plays the character of Ameer in the Nivin Pauly-starrer. “I play a guy who belongs to Akbar's (Nivin Pauly's character) neighbourhood. One part of the movie happens there and it narrates the story of Akbar and Ameer. Though the character is a minor one like in Koode, it has magnitude in the movie.”

Working with Geethu gifted him a completely fresh experience. He says she was 100 percent confident of his calibre. He even had qualms about his performance while attending the workshop for the movie but her confidence was a major boost. Once the shooting commenced, it was easy for him to get into Ameer's character. “I have never seen a director who completely trusts the actors. It was a new and rewarding experience. I have given it my best. I can foresee the audience expressing distinct opinions about my character; but as an actor, perhaps, Ameer is the most satisfying character I have done till now. It will be a milestone character in my career,” Roshan says. A product of The Drama School, Mumbai, he doesn't have a dream role as such. “I want to do good characters in every new movie I work in. There are some directors and actors I love to work with. I’m waiting for that,” he concludes.
