The only sports movie in Malayalam in which Jayasurya has acted was Midhun Manuel Thomas-directed Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu. He was seen in the role of a tug-of-war player. Now, if sources are to be believed, the actor is all set to wear jersey of a football player for an upcoming film. According to a source in the film industry, Jayasurya will essay the role of former Indian football captain V.P. Sathyan in the film titled Captain.
“The film is being made based on the autobiography of Sathyan,” says the source. The film will be directed by debutant Prajeesh Sen and George T.L will produce it under the banner of Goodwill Entertainments. Sunny Wayne-starrer Ann Maria Kalippilanu, Mammootty’s Kasaba and Manju Warrier-film Jo and The Boy were the earlier films from this banner. It was in 1991 that Sathyan became the captain of the Indian team for the World Cup qualifiers in Beirut and Seoul. He led the Indian team to a gold medal in the 1995 SAF Games in Chennai. He also led Kerala to the Santosh Trophy title in 1992.
