Much has been talked about the similarities in the story line and the real life person Saji Thomas from whom the two upcoming films Aby directed by Srikant Murali and Vimanam directed by Pradeep M. Nair have supposedly been inspired. The director of the Prithviraj starrer Vimanam —Pradeep even filed an appeal in Court asking for the release of Aby to be stayed. Looks like Srikant Murali has won this round with the Ernakulam Munsiff Court declaring that Aby with Vineeth Sreenivasan in the lead can fly safely.
The court took this decision after watching the preview of Aby and reading the screenplays of both the films and finding that Aby has no similarity to the life of Saji Thomas. The story of one man’s complete passion to fly, resulting in him making his own plane was the bone of contention between the two parties which has now found a solution, thanks to the law. Aby had started its shoot first and Pradeep had even then demanded that a stop be put to the shoot which was rejected by the court. Aby is produced by Suvin K. Varkey and Prasobh Krishna.
