Prosecution for in camera proceedings in Kerala actor's case

In case of need the defendant should be allowed to browse through the statement in the court premises, prosecution said.

KOCHI: The prosecution has sought an in camera hearing in the case proceedings connected with the abduction and sexual assault of a female actor in view of the sensitivity of the matter. The prosecution made the plea on Tuesday in the Angamaly judicial first class magistrate court during the hearing of the bail petition of Sunilkumar alias Pulsar Suni. The prosecution also stated that a copy of the statement made by the actor under Section 164 before the magistrate should not be provided to the defendant. In case of need the defendant should be allowed to browse through the statement in the court premises, prosecution said.

Stating the assault against the actor has more sinister elements than the infamous Delhi rape and murder case, the prosecution said such matters cannot be argued in an open court. The statement under Section 164 by the actor is a crucial component of the evidence in the case and its contents cannot be revealed in an open court. The counsel for Suni has pleaded for bail to the first accused on the ground that the chargesheet has already been submitted in the court. The prosecution objected to the plea and said the probe has not been completed in the case.
