After all the hype the team of Sundar C’s Sangamithra created with its stint at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, the proceedings of the film took an unlikely turn with Shruti Haasan, who was roped in to play the titular role, backing out of the project. Later, many heroines including Hansika were rumoured to replace Shruti but nothing was made official. But now, Disha Patani, who has worked in Bollywood and Telugu cinema, has allegedly been roped in for the role.
According to a source, Disha is most likely to make her Tamil debut in a grand fashion with the mega-budget production by Sri Thenandal Films. The period film set in 8th century AD, has actors Jayam Ravi and Arya playing warriors. Oscar award winner AR Rahman will be composing the tunes while art director Sabu Cyril, an expert in this genre, will be taking care of the sets. But the movie has to wait until 2018 since Sundar C will get busy helming the second part of his hit comedy drama Kalakalappu from October 4.
