A song about good ol' fish curry
Most people who love seafood would undoubtedly relish a good serving of some well-cooked fish curry prepared with coconut milk and raw mango. To make it all the more mouthwatering, everyone’s beloved singing old man Aristo Suresh lend his voice to a song explaining exactly how the famous Angamaly fish curry is prepared. Just a day into its release, the song Meen Curry, from the upcoming movie Cuban Colony, was trending on YouTube at number three on Saturday.
Not only did music composer Aloshya Kavumpurathu not guess his song would trend, he was surprised to see memes being made about the trending. This is Aloshya’s debut as a music composer for a film. “The shoot of the movie is underway so director Manoj Varghese Parecattil thought of bringing out a song as a first step towards promotions,” he says. Speaking about how he got his first offer, he says, “I have worked with Manoj in an advertisement directed by him. Our friendship started with that ad. He had mentioned that he liked my work and that he would approach me again for a movie that was under discussion.”
He explains the situation in the song and says, “I was told that the movie needed a song suitable for a wedding. Something in the folk genre that anyone could sing. The lyrics for the song were also penned by director Manoj and it was written keeping in mind the psyche of people of Angamaly. The movie is based in Angamaly and their mango curry is very famous. And that is how we zeroed in on this fish curry song. We also wanted a singer with mature vocals. Initially, we never had Aristo chettan in mind. But when we thought about an aged voice, who better than Aristo? We knew he could pull it off. He was more than willing to come and sing the song. He was very excited as well.” Aloshya is also composing two other songs for the movie. “A friendship song by Niranj Suresh and a love song by Yasin and Shwetha Mohan. Anyway, right now, with the release of the fish curry song, everyone is really excited and happy,” he concludes.
