In all praise for Anjali Menon

Arun Sunny plays Parvathi's overbearing cousin brother Joe in Koode.

Acting in a music album was the initial stepping stone towards fulfilling a long-cherished dream for Arun Sunny. And it was not some random album, but the Vineeth Sreenivasan-backed Coffee @ MG Road’. He found work as an event manager and that stint helped him in meeting and interacting with people who mattered in the business. Soon, Arun found himself acting in ad films including national ones. One followed the other and now the number of ad films he has been a part of stands at 55.

It was the stint in ad films that helped him get acquainted with an assistant who was working in the Anjali Menon film Koode. With his heart in mouth, he gave an audition and to his surprise, he was chosen. Arun still cannot believe his good luck, “I play Parvathi’s cousin brother Joe who is very overbearing and overprotective. He opposes her romance. My character has a slightly negative shade in the film.” That is about his character.

Arun though is still coming to terms with acting in an Anjali Menon film and says, “Without a doubt, I was nervous! My first combination scene was with Prithviraj and Parvathi; my mind was blank. What alleviated my nervousness was that I had worked with Prithviraj for an ad earlier, so I was acquainted with him,” he recalls. Arun has only good words to share regarding his experience of working with Anjali Menon, “She is very spontaneous. We were all working with sync sound and she gave all of us the freedom to improvise our dialogues.”

Another big-budget project has also come calling — the Rosshan Andrews directorial Kayamkulam Kochunni in which he plays a Brahmin. “I was blessed in this project too. In that my scene was with Nivin Pauly. But the shooting of Koode and Kayamkulam... happened simultaneously so I could not spare enough time for Kayamkulam…,” he rues. Arun is certainly not a novice and he has acted in films like Eby, Ankarajyathe Jimmanmar and Orange Valley. He also has some projects in hand.
