Malayalam actress abduction: Round one to police

The High Court, while denying the bail, has said there is prima facie evidence to suspect Dileep in the case.

Kochi: With the High Court denying him bail, actor Dileep is set to serve a lengthy judicial custody in the sexual assault on actress case. The actor arrested on July 10th after a detailed interrogation is at present lodged at Aluva sub jail. The court accepted almost all the contentions of the prosecution and even termed the case as unique, cruel and diabolic. The court held that the nature of the crime is liable to shake the conscience of society. Terming the incident as serious, the court observed: “A young actress was abducted in the busiest national highway, taken through the city for about two and half hours, subjected to the shocking ordeal of sexual assault and video graphed, inside a moving car.”

The court refused to accept the contentions of Dileep's counsel while it found merit in the arguments of the police. Pointing to the materials available the court noted that immediately after the commission of crime, the accused along with a co-accused had attempted to hand over the mobile and memory card to the associates of Dileep. “The case is unique, considering its seriousness, meticulous planning, cruel nature of execution and being a crime executed to wreak vengeance on a woman by engaging criminals to sexually abuse her. Courts have to be circumspect in granting bail in such cases,” the court observed rejecting the bail application. The court mentioned the prosecution arguments that there are enough materials available on record to show that the relationship of petitioner with victim was strained. There are versions of a few persons that the victim lost a few opportunities to act in films thereafter, which affected her professional career also.
