Kerala actor abduction: Pulsar's letter' to Dileep twists case
KOCHI: The case of abduction and sexual assault of popular Malayalam film actor has taken a dramatic turn following disclosure of the content of a letter allegedly written by prime accused Pulsar Suni to co-star Dileep demanding money for not revealing his involvement. The twist raising a series of questions over the conclusion of special investigation team headed by ADGP B. Sandhya may force a probe afresh. The SIT has filed the chargesheet in the case giving an implicit impression that the entire conspiracy was hatched by the first accused Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni without external involvement.
Although there were many speculative reports on the role of some industry bigwigs, the SIT has not been able to unearth any links. The letter puts a question mark over the controversial remark by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan the next day that there was no evidence of involvement by anyone other than Suni. If the probe team authenticates the veracity of the letter, it will open a can of worms connected with the Malayalam film industry.
Although Dileep and his actor-director friend Nadirsha went on the offensive by stating that they have already informed the police about the blackmail attempt, the “letter” shifts the focus back on Dileep. Industry bodies will also have to make their views clear as it alleges a conspiracy to assault the actor. The SIT will have to undertake a detailed and transparent investigation to remove the grey areas.
Tracing calls may prove to be the game changer
Tracing the phone call that allegedly threatened actor Dileep’s manager Appunny and friend Nadirshah is all set to provide the police a way to unravel the mystery many believe surrounds the actor abduction case. Police authorities on Saturday remained tight-lipped over the development even as social media went agog with rumours that the police has already tracked the location from where the telephone calls were made.
It is understood that the police has already questioned Vishnu who allegedly made the call. A thorough inquiry would be able to bring to the fore the persons who could be behind Vishnu, a petty thief. According to sources, the police is yet to register a separate case in connection with Dileep's complaint and that they are going ahead with the investigation into the present case. Both Nadirshah and Dileep have sought a detailed probe into the case and conduct lie detection tests. They also expressed willingness to undergo lie detection tests. Dileep told a TV channel that he even backed the demand by P.T. Thomas, MLA, that the case be handed over to the CBI. The police in the chargesheet had already said it was already investing to see if there was a conspiracy in which more people were involved.
‘Give me money, save my friends’
A letter purportedly written by main accused in the actor abduction case Sunil Kumar aka ‘Pulsur Suni’ addressing actor Dileep has demanded a payment of Rs 1.5 crore and an exit route for the five accomplices who have been arrested in the case if his name were not to be dragged into the case. Interestingly, officials of Kakkanad sub jail, where Suni is currently lodged, feigned ignorance about the letter which has the seal of the jail superintendent on it. The letter, suspected to have written by Suni, claimed that he was being frequented by people who are against the actor. “You could have deputed a lawyer at least to inquire about my well-being,” the letter read.
It demanded that the “promised money” be handed over in five months and that he had not divulged anything “so far”. The letter quoted Suni as saying he had to ensure that five others arrested along with him in the case were “made safe”. Suni went on to say he was sending the letter with “great difficulty” and through a third person “who have little knowledge about the case”. He wanted the actor to “contact” him somehow in three days of receiving the letter. When contacted, authorities of the Kakkanad Jail said they had not seen any such letter or aware of the accused writing any. However, they admitted that Suni had requested and got sealed letter heads on the ground of filing petitions.
