Kicking ass; the chic way

The vibrant girl now plans to launch a No Fear' campaign which promotes martial arts among women. It is very much the need of the hour.

Karate exponent, model, actor, TV presenter and emcee — she plays all her roles with class and panache. Mumbai-based Sandhya Shetty, a gold medalist at the eighth edition of the Commonwealth Karate Championship, has channeled her talent into a wide range of ventures. She was also the finalist of Femina Miss India 2000. The vibrant girl now plans to launch a ‘No Fear’ campaign — which promotes martial arts among women. “It is very much the need of the hour.

Self-defence for women in our country should be of utmost importance. Women need to be strong and need to break the stereotype. Crimes against women, whether at home or outside, are increasing daily and it is definitely not a good thing to hear. It is high time we break the stereotype,” she stresses.

Sandhya, who has started research and groundwork for her campaign, wants to make it spread across the country. “Awareness should start from the school level — some form of martial art should be included in the curriculum. Physical education implemented in school today is not adequate,” she adds.

Her fighting spirit has made her an icon to reckon with, not only in karate, but also in her quest to be the best in any career. Sandhya will debut in a lead role with Woh Ek Mulaqat soon — “I love the camera, and I am not being modest when I say the camera loves me too. I love acting, and will focus on Bollywood projects soon.”
